There’s something about owning an original poster that you can’t achieve with a print.
The slight blemishes, signs of folding etc are part of the living history of that poster and the cinema where it was originally displayed and then saved by someone for prosperity instead of being disposed of in a rubbish bin.
An original poster helps connect the poster’s owner to the artist who created the poster and of course, to the film itself.
Co-Owner, Owen appreciates the ‘journey’ leading to the purchase of a poster. It’s always been about the art for him first and the movie second.
Having the original poster means purchasing a piece of movie history and that’s special!

CONDITION OF POSTERS
All our posters are originals and were issued by the film studios or their distributors, for display in cinemas or for the film’s promotion. We grade the condition of our posters using the following descriptions - Excellent, Very Good and Good. We will always describe any imperfections in the listing of the poster.
The posters are displayed in the gallery in acid free browsing folders or stored in special movie poster archival boxes and architects plan drawers.
Our posters are all individual and have been collected by Owen over many years (he is still collecting more!). Older posters were usually folded but not always, before being sent out to the cinemas. After the mid 1980s, posters were then usually rolled, again not always and sent out in cardboard tubes. We send out our posters rolled and packaged in strong postal tubes.
EXCELLENT
These posters are in “as issued condition” and some have not been displayed. Imperfections - if any - are very minor and will be listed in the description.
VERY GOOD
These posters may have pinholes in the borders and slight handling creasing. Any faults will be listed in the description.
GOOD
These posters may have pinholes in the borders, edge creasing, minor wear along fold lines, small tears in the borders. Tears and fold line damage will be repaired using acid free archival repair tape. Any faults will be listed in the description.

The Certificate confirms that the poster you have purchased was printed specifically for use in, or near, a cinema.
The Tordoff Gallery does not sell any reprints or reproductions.

When posters have been stored badly ie. folded, damage can sometimes occur. Linen-backing is the preferred archival method for conserving and/or restoring a poster and can improve the overall appearance of a poster and potentially, increase its value.
